Photo Window Frame

Image

I really needed a wall space filled behind my couch, and I waited forever thinking of what to add. Etsy artwork was ideal, but too expensive. My searches on Etsy didn’t end in wasted time because I found the window frame idea and realized how simple it is!

There are many varieties of hanging photos in an aged window. Here is my version of the project. But I don’t have the step-by-step process, I’m sorry!

What you’ll need:

-Aged window frame

-Hemp, wire, or twine

-Staple gun

-Close pins

Simply staple the twine to the back of the window frame in a straight line from one side to the other. Be sure to leave room for a photo to hang before adding the next line of twine. I did two lines which was plenty.

I am slowly gathering pictures that I really want to hang up here since it is in my living room. The wedding invitations are especially pretty.

Master Bedroom Thrifty Decorating

To follow up my house tour post, I will gradually reveal the details I’ve added to my older home. As with most of the decor in my house, my bedroom decorating consists of thrift store purchases, wedding gifts and homemade items. Thankfully all of my bedding was brand new 🙂 When I feel like a wall is bare, I run to a thrift store every so often to see if I can find something to fix it.

My favorite part about our room is the window about our bed. Mostly because it serves as a headboard, but also because I can fill it with my thrifty items! Yes, I am a hoarder!

Window from left to right: Wedding gift candles; ‘relax’ sign from my mother; tall white thrift store candle; white floral stems(the one item I bought new); mirror from Goodwill; Vase from Value Village; Cute wooden people wedding gift! There’s also my feather-duster looking decoration behind the vase in the light

Normally, I shy away from throwing too many wedding photos onto the walls of my home, but I feel that it’s not too self-absorbed to put them on our bedroom wall. For this reason, I used most of the ones I liked because it makes for inexpensive wall art! And we are the only ones who really see it.

My ceilings make it awkward to know where to hang items. I chose to hang the wreaths and picture close together to make them look more like one object than like three separates. And I hung it midway on the wall to fill space.

This is my make-shift dresser for socks, pajamas, unmentionables, and magazines 😉 I love it! By finding any spare baskets, and using an unused bookshelf, I figured I could save a lot of space and money by using storage I already have. You can buy shelving like this, but its more eclectic and inexpensive this way.

Most of my walls in my bedroom are covered but I am aching to make this burlap banner for a blank wall closer to the ceiling and above my closet! All of the ceilings are higher than I’m used to so it gives me more room to play with!

I wish I had a sewing machine and I could make it now!

White Subway Tub Surround, Complete!

Yesterday I took my first shower in our newly tiled tub surround!! Hurrah!! Our bathtub still has to be resurfaced, so we’ll be saving up for that. But I love how posh the shiny white tile seems, and the graphic contrast that the dark grout brings in. (Posh is a relative term – in contrast with the pink plastic tile.)

I plan to write an in-depth post on how I tiled my tub surround, but for now, these are the finished photos. The showerhead, tub spout, and knobs came from Overstock.com, the suction cup caddy is from Target.

White subway tile, dark grout

Don’t scrutinize too closely – me and my razor have some more caulk to clean up off the tile. That is the hard part about dark grout/caulk – it never cleans up.

I also replaced the ancient, malfunctioning drain. We no longer have to hang a wet washcloth on the drain latch to get it to stay open!

My biggest mistake was making the hole for the showerhead too large for the flange to cover. So I’ve ordered a square flange to cover the gaping black hole.

Here is the pink tile in all her glory (backwards – this photo was taken in the mirror):

And again, the after:

And today I received a pleasant surprise in the mail – my shower curtain that was supposedly back-ordered until May! Pictures later…
